Stobart, the UK's leading multimodal transport and logistics provider, is set to acquire Chelford-based James Irlam & Sons Ltd for £59 million.
The enlarged Stobart Group will have net assets of over £320million, operate more than 1,300 trucks, 2,300 trailers and employ over 3,500 people in the UK.
The acquisitions will bring financial, operational and environmental benefits for its customers and more opportunities for employees.
The Irlam Group is one of the largest independently-owned road transport logistics providers in the UK and is based in Chelford.
Irlam provides transport, warehousing and contract packing services for blue chip companies including Proctor & Gamble, Danone Waters and Pedigree.
Irlam will continue to operate under its own brand and management team and David Irlam will join the Group's board. There will not be any redundancies under the proposals.

Imperial Commercial's new acquisition...
Imperial Commercials network in the South-West has a new acquisition: Joseph Rice Truck Services, now Renamed Imperial Commercials Gloucester. Joseph Rice Truck Services used to operate as Gloucestershire's Foden service and parts dealer. Now, under the Imperial Commercials Gloucester tag it will have a new franchise on site.

Boalloy Collapses before new trailer comes to market...
Trailer manufacturer Boalloy was about to launch a new curtainsider called the Tautliner Express. The firm had been working on the design for six months and the first prototype had been delivered to the Congleton, Cheshire plant just before the company collapsed. Congleton Engineering is able to supply parts for any Boalloy built vehicle.
